sarahs blogJune 21, 2007 I have been away from the computer lately in the chaos of the move, but I'm back. As much as possible we enjoyed our drive across the country. Our favorite hotel was the Sheraton that we stayed at in Chicago. It was a suite and the pool was lots of fun for Jayce.
Our next stop was in Minneapolis where we enjoyed our visit to the Mall of America. Jayce, in particular enjoyed Lego land and talked about the Lego dinosaurs the rest of the trip. There were also Lego stations where he could play with Lego by himself.
Afterwards, Brent did some shopping with Kai, while Jayce and I went to an Underwater Adventure Park. We were able to walk through a tube that was surrounded by water on three sides, so that sharks, turtles, sting rays, divers, etc., swam over and around us. We had a blast.
We watched the divers feed some of the fish with handfuls of worms. The divers also swam around with the sharks. Jayce started waving at the divers and they waved back. One of the turtles that we saw was over 100 years old. We had a very good view of the sharks' teeth as they swam over top of us. It was a good experience for me because of my ridiculous fear of sharks.
After we finished going through the underground walkway there were some other neat exhibits like these baby alligators. Jayce loved running around like a big boy, when I let him out of the stroller, to look at all the different animals and displays. In the meantime, Brent ended up feeding Kai a bottle and he said that babies really are "chick magnets", because quite a few females stopped to talk to him and comment on Kai.
This is Jayce watching Dora and snuggling his "cuddle bear".
May 12, 2007 Well, we finally found a place to live in Calgary and I am really excited about it. It is in Killarney, so we will be in the Wildwood Ward in the Calgary Stake. Here are some pictures:
After walking around on hardwood for the past two years I am looking forward to a place that has carpet and tile, just for the change. I am also thrilled that I will finally have a kitchen with some counter space. This town-home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, and kitchen, dining, living and half-bath on the main floor. The basement is a walk-out with the garage there. As well there is an extra bedroom down there and a couple storage rooms. The location is very nice too. Brent will not have a very long commute to work and there is a school with a park across the street. As well there is a library and a swimming pool in the neighbourhood, which I grew to love living in Brentwood with my grandparents last summer. Of course Calgary prices are insane these days. We will be paying exactly twice what we are paying here in London for rent. But at least now Brent will have an income now instead of us paying so that he can go to school. For any of you who don't know Brent will be starting a job as an Investment Banker at CIBC World Markets. He worked there last summer and really enjoyed it despite the long hours. I am just glad that I will be close to lots of friends and family in Calgary to keep me and the boys company when Brent's not around. April 30, 2007 Friday was Brent's convocation from MBA school. It is so great that he is actually done. He was given an award as an Ivey Scholar, which means he was in the top 10% of his class in both the first year and second year of his program. I am really proud of him. The past couple years that we have spent here in London with Brent working on his MBA have definitely been challenging for us. We had a baby at the very beginning of MBA school and then we had another baby at the very end. For Jayce's birth Brent had to fly across the country and back (twice) in order to ensure that he was there to see his son arrive. Then with Kai Brent had to miss his last ever MBA class because that was the day Kai was born. But it has sure been worth it. It was great to see Brent with his two boys at convocation.
Brent's brother Daryn was still here in London with us for Brent's convocation and his Mom and other brother Travis were able to fly out and be here. Thet were all a big help at the ceremony, keeping Jayce and Kai happy. I couldn't have done it by myself.
April 17, 2007 Well Kai has been around for 12 days now and boy is he a good baby. He is so easy. I just love having him. He hardly ever cries and he eats and sleeps so good. He is definitely what the baby whisperer would call an "angel baby". Jayce really seems to like Kai; he calls him "baby Kai". He often wakes up from his naps and wants to see Kai right away. However, Jayce must be feeling a little displaced because he has been quite whiny for the past couple weeks. Today after Kai had his diaper changed Jayce wanted his diaper changed, which is something he usually doesn't like. Brent is now done MBA school!!! It has been great having Brent around the house to help out. He has done most of the cooking and cleaning since Kai was born and that has been lovely. The transition from one to two children has been more difficult for Brent then for me, no doubt because he has been busier. Brent has also been giving Kai one bottle a night (although I have been nursing Kai the rest of the time). Anyhow, I have noticed a huge difference in how I am feeling by getting that extra bit of sleep. It has been much easier then when Jayce was born and I was taking care of all the nighttime feedings myself. As well, we have Brent's brother Daryn visiting us right now. It was very helpful that he was here the night Kai was born so that we could leave Jayce with him rather than having to drive Jayce somewhere first before going to the hospital. (This ended up being a very good thing since my water broke in the car at the hospital doors.) Here's a picture of Daryn and Kai at the hospital.
March 15, 2007 Since this is our family website, I have dedicated this blog to ramblings about my sons. This way I can share little stories about the boys without anyone actually being obligated to listen. However, right off the bat I need a little feedback. Our second son is due to be born in less than three weeks and we still haven't chosen a name for him. Unfortunately the feedback page of this website is not working yet, so if anyone has any great name suggestions please email me at sebieber@hotmail.com. Now for a Jayce update. To see what Jayce is capable of at 18 months check out our newest video. He is lots of fun lately (but of course, I always say that). I have noticed changes in his personality lately. My perfect little son has recently learned to be deliberately naughty. He gets a little smirk on his face if he knows he is doing something wrong. For example, if he grabs one of my books he will smile and run away, even though he knows better. He is also experimenting with crying to see if he can get what he wants. I think this is the precursor to full-blown tantrums, so as parents we are trying to be firm and never give in to the tears. Recently when we were out for dinner Jayce started to cry/scream when we told him it was time to go, but as soon as we got him out of the highchair he stopped and started waving at the other customers saying, "Bye people". He can definitely turn the tears/charm on and off at will. As for our other son I can't wait to finally
meet him. I am finding this last month of pregnancy to be much
more difficult than with Jayce, probably because I am chasing a toddler
around this time. I find I am much more tired than during my last
pregnancy to the point that I find my own lack of energy shocking at
times. If you want to see how huge I am check out the video of
Jayce playing in the snow.
